Launch Speech

Good evening. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Amy Arnott.  I created Black Sheep Betty.  This is my baby.  She was born out of my love for art.

To me, art is love.  It is the pure expression of the human soul.  It begins as an inspiration inside a creative person's mind.  And that artist has the courage and the talent to take that idea and make it a reality.

They pour their time and love into this special creation.  Now it doesn't matter if they choose to express this idea through song, dance, painting, fashion design or cuisine.  They are reaching out and communicating with the world.  And giving people something that they, in turn, can express themselves with... by hanging it on their wall or incorporating it into their personal fashion style, it becomes a part of who they are.  And I think THAT is beautiful.

People reaching out and touching the lives of other people.  Communicating.  And giving joy.

It probably won't surprise you to know that I'm an artist.  I express myself through painting, fashion & interior design, jewelry-making, hairstyling and writing.  You know, I always thought that I would make my career from one of these pursuits.  But what I didn't realize was that I was destined for something bigger than just me.

Not long ago, I came to the realization that it was not physically possible for me to live comfortably from my art.  To create and finance a venue for it, a marketing plan, a website, and so on and still have time to make enough art to survive.

And since I arrived in Montreal a year ago, I've met and heard of countless others just like me:  creative talents withering on the vine.

So I had the idea to collect up these brilliant young minds and provide them with everything they needed from the business end so that they could just focus on what they do best:  creating.

I went on a hunt for these artists and I was absolutely blown away by what I found.  15  amazing young talents who are also genuine and true of heart.  With that said, it is with great pleasure that I now introduce you to the real superstars of Black Sheep Betty.

I'd like to thank them all for being the heart of Black Sheep Betty.

I'd like to quickly thank my everpresent helper and buddy, Guy.  My contractor Fred.  And my mom and dad Bob and Nick Arnott.  My whole life they've given me the tools to make my dreams a reality and this was no exception.  Thank you also to everyone else who helped make this possible.

And, finally, thank you to all of you for coming and showing your support.  Every one of you are VERY special to me because you have now shared in the happiest moment of my life.  So far.    Welcome to Black Sheep Betty, and please, enjoy yourselves.
